I’ve been working with “Sara” – a PD client – for a few years now.
When she walked into her session yesterday, she informed me she couldn’t lift heavy due to a procedure she had.
That’s ok! I love a good programming challenge!
Knowing her limitations, strengths and areas that need improvement, I created a session with lighter weights and bodyweight exercises.
She was still challenged appropriately, still got her workout in, and knew she wasn’t wasting time in the gym trying to come up with a program for herself, wondering what to do.
When I first started lifting weights, I wanted to know I wasn’t wasting my time at the gym. I wanted to be sure I was going to get results. And I hired a trainer.
Years later, after becoming a trainer myself, I fill that role for my clients.
Creating sessions that challenge you just enough to facilitate change.
Creating sessions that are specific to you – your limitations, your current fitness level, your goals.
Knowing that even a perfectly pre-programmed plan is going to necessitate changes due to illness, travel, or other complications. And being able to tweak that program to meet the current situation, but still make it effective for that client.
The best trainers not only focus on a plan but also on the needs of their clients in the moment. That adaptability is what makes sessions impactful, no matter the circumstances.
If this sounds like something that will help you reach your goals, stay accountable – or you want to know you aren’t wasting time at the gym – let’s talk!
